Phasing Out

Yes, you guys probably saw it coming. 1 ARC Tours is phasing out day by day. We now only have 2 active tours, and both of those will probably end this month.

There's nothing that can be done or said to stop it, I apologize. We weren't getting many/any donations. And those that we were getting, people weren't signing up for.

Who knows? Maybe we'll come back in April-ish, when school is over. But as of right now there are PLENTY of other tour sites y'all can participate in that are FAR more active and organized than this one.

Good luck, and happy holidays.

Solid-- Shelley Workinger

Release Date: July 9, 2010
Publisher: CreateSpace
Summary (goodreads):
Eighteen years ago, a rogue Army doctor secretly experimented with a chromosomal drug on unknowing pregnant women. When he was killed not long after the children were born, any knowledge and evidence seemed to die with him - except for the living, breathing, human products of his work. Almost two decades later, the newly self-proclaimed "open-book" military unearths the truth about the experiment, bringing Clio Kaid and the other affected teens to a state-of-the-art, isolated campus where they soon discover that C9x did indeed alter their chromosomes, its mutations presenting as super-human abilities. The military kids, who come from across the nation and all walks of life, come into their own as lighter-than-air 'athletes'; 'indies' as solid as stone walls; teens who can make themselves invisible and others who can blind with their brilliance. While exploring her own special ability, forging new friendships and embarking on first love, Clio also stumbles onto information indicating that the military may not have been entirely forthcoming with them and that all may not be as it seems...

Red Moon Rising-- Peter Moore

Release Date: February 15th, 2011
Publisher: Hyperion
Donated by: Jen
Summary (goodreads):
Being only half-vamp in a high school like Carpathia Night makes you a whole loser. But Danny Gray manages to escape the worst of the specists at his school. Thanks to the genetic treatments he had as an infant, most people assume Danny's other half is human. Which is a good thing.

Ever since the development of synthetic blood – SynHeme – vamps have become society’s elite, while wulves like his father work menial jobs and live in bad neighborhoods. Wulves are less than second class citizens; once a month they become inmates, forced to undergo their Change in dangerous government compounds.

For Danny, living with his vamp mother and going to a school with a nearly all-vamp student body, it’s best to pretend his wulf half doesn’t even exist.

But lately Danny's been having some weird symptoms -- fantastic night vision; a keener-than-usual sense of smell; and headaches, right around the full moon.

Even though it's tempting to live in denial, it's hard to ignore evidence. There's only a month until the next full moon, and Danny's time is running out.

Updated Tours

Hello everybody!

I have gone through and updated the tours (something I REALLY needed to do!). So here's news on our active tours, retired tours, and lost books.

ACTIVE TOURS

Guys! We only have 10 tours going right now! That's pitiful. This site is driven by your donations! If you have an ARC lying around PLEASE consider donating it! PLEASE!

RETIRED TOURS

I've gone through and marked all of the tours that are finished. Yup. This section is simple.

LOST BOOKS

We have EIGHT books missing! I know where some of these are, but if you have one of these PLEASE let me know! I believe I have contacted everyone who has these, but have gotten very few responses. If you have one of these PLEASE LET ME KNOW. If we work together to get them out quick, you won't be penalized. Please hurry! Here are the books we're looking for:

Kiss Me Deadly
BOTH of our copies of this book have been lost. I know who has them. If you are one of the people, please contact me so that you can get these back on track.

Forget Her Nots
I have contacted the person who has this. It will hopefully be mailed out soon.

Freefall
This book apparently never arrived at its last tour participant. The author would like it back, so if you have it PLEASE let me know!

This Gorgeous Game
This book still has half its tour to go. Let's get it moving!

Confessions of the Sullivan Sisters
This went to hope, who I haven't heard from in months. Dunno if we'll get it back.

The Deadly Sister
This may have been mailed out without the sender giving me DC. If you have it, please let me know!

Sapphique
This book vanished. Help anyone?

You Wish
I have contacted the person who has this. It will hopefully be mailed out soon.

Despite all the hard work running this site takes, I really enjoy it. HOWEVER it can't run without your help! Please be sure to e-mail me for next address IMMEDIATELY after you recieve the book. And mail on time. And DONATE ARCs! We can't run without them.

Thanks guys!

Deadly-- Julie Chibbaro

Release Date: February 2011
Publisher: Atheneum Books for Young Readers (an imprint of Simon and Schuster)
Donated by: Author
Series: n/a
Summary (goodreads):
A mysterious outbreak of typhoid fever is sweeping New York.
Could the city’s future rest with its most unlikely scientist?
If Prudence Galewski is ever going to get out of Mrs. Browning’s esteemed School for Girls, she must demonstrate her refinement and charm by securing a job appropriate for a young lady. But Prudence isn’t like the other girls. She is fascinated by how the human body works and why it fails.
With a stroke of luck, she lands a position in a laboratory, where she is swept into an investigation of the fever bound to change medical history. Prudence quickly learns that an inquiry of this proportion is not confined to the lab. From ritzy mansions to shady bars and rundown tenements, she explores every potential cause of the disease. But there’s no answer in sight—until the volatile Mary Mallon emerges. Dubbed “Typhoid Mary” by the press, Mary is an Irish immigrant who has worked as a cook in every home the fever has ravaged. Strangely, though, she hasn’t been sick a day in her life. Is the accusation against her an act of discrimination? Or is she the first clue in a new scientific discovery?
Prudence is determined to find out. In a time when science is for men, she’ll have to prove to the city, and to herself, that she can help solve one of the greatest medical mysteries of the twentieth century.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION! All participants MUST READ

Thank you SO MUCH for responding to my cry for help, guys! I got a TON of people volunteer for help. I'm looking over all of your e-mails now, and I'll get back to you soon.

In the meantime, I have made some BIG CHANGES to 1 ARC Tours. Please read carefully
  • We have a new e-mail address! My personal e-mail was a Yahoo account, and it was a HUGE pain to have to log in and out over and over again. That's the main reason I was so slow with e-mail. So our new e-mail is onearctours@gmail.com
  • There is no more Cbox. I learned that it was REALLY annoying! I just kept missing things. Now, every time you RECEIVE a book, every time you MAIL a book, and every time you need the NEXT ADDRESS you must e-mail me at the new e-mail address.
  • The rules have been updated. Things are a little more strict. I have outlined exact punishments for when rules are broken. Hopefully this will encourage order. SEE THE NEW RULES
  • Tours are now open to the US only. I'm really sorry to our few Canadian members. But it was just causing too much stress. If you're interested in international tours, you might check out the Good Golly Miss Holly tours.
  • We have a new participation form. You must fill out this form in order to participate. If you are on a tour currently, but your name is not on the new form, you will NOT recieve the book. CLICK HERE to fill out the new form. Make sure you have read the new rules first!
  • Points are going to be updated. I'm going to make a new points list with everyone who signs up with the NEW FORM. Your points will carry over so long as you sign up again.
  • There is a new donation form! This will make donations a lot easier for me! If you would like to donate, please fill it out! You can click here, or click the link at the top of the page.
  • All of the tours have been updated. I have removed all of the retired tours. There are many tours that I have marked as "lost" because people appear to be hoarding them. There are equally many tours where people donated a book and then never mailed it out. I have cancelled these tours. I'm sorry for any inconvenience.
All right. I think that's it. If you have any questions or concerns you can comment here or e-mail me at onearctours@gmail.com

Small Update...

Hello everyone!

I just want to let everyone know that if Enna Isilee or I don't get in contact with you the day you send an e-mail or post in the chat box, don't freak out!  Both of us have just started our college classes, so we both just got busy again.

For those of you e-mailing for addresses, I would suggest e-mailing us two or three days ahead of the scheduled time for it to ship, just to make sure we can get the address to you on time.

Also, we have many tours right now that are less than five people.  If a tour doesn't get five people signed up, it will not run.  It takes a lot of time to keep everything going smoothly, and it's hard to keep everything straight with a lot of tours with less than five people on them.

Thanks for reading!

Hope.

Prisoners in the Palace by Michaela MacColl

London , 1838. Sixteen-year-old Liza's dreams of her society debut are dashed when her parents are killed in an accident. Penniless, she accepts the position of lady's maid to young Princess Victoria and steps unwittingly into the gossipy intrigue of the servant's world below-stairs as well as the trickery above. Is it possible that her changing circumstances may offer Liza the chance to determine her own fate, find true love, and secure the throne for her future queen?

Meticulously based on newly discovered information, this riveting novel is as rich in historical detail as Catherine, Called Birdy, and as sizzling with intrigue as The Luxe.

About the Author:
Michaela MacColl studied multi-disciplinary history at Vassar College and Yale University , which turns out to be the perfect degree for writing historical fiction. She lives with her husband, two daughters, and three extremely large cats in Connecticut . This is her first book.

Series: Generation Dead (#3) POSSIBLE SPOILERS IN SUMMARY
Donated by: Publisher
Summary: POSSIBLE SPOILERS!!
Karen DeSonne always passed as a normal (if pale) teenager; with her friends, with her family, and at school. Passing cost her the love of her life. And now that Karen’s dead, she’s still passing—this time, as alive. Karen DeSonne just happens to be an extremely human-like zombie. Meanwhile, Karen’s dead friends have been fingered in a high-profile murder, causing a new round of antizombie regulations that have forced them into hiding. Karen soon learns that the “murder” that destroyed their non-life was a hoax, staged by Pete Martinsburg and his bioist zealots. Obtaining enough evidence to expose the fraud and prove her friends’ innocence means doing the unthinkable: becoming Pete’s girlfriend. Karen’s only hope is that the enemy never realizes who she really is—because the consequences would be worse than death.

Summary:
When fifteen-year-old Krystal Bentley moves to Lincoln, Connecticut, her mom's hometown, she assumes her biggest drama will be adjusting to the burbs after living in New York City.
But Lincoln is nothing like Krystal imagined. The weirdness begins when Ricky Watson starts confiding in her. He's cute, funny, a good listener—and everything she'd ever want—except that he was killed nearly a year ago. Krystal's ghost-whispering talents soon lead other "freaks" to her door—Sasha, a rich girl who can literally disappear, and Jake, who moves objects with his mind. All three share a distinctive birthmark in the shape of an M and, fittingly, call themselves the Mystyx. They set out to learn what really happened to Ricky, only to realize that they aren't the only ones with mysterious powers. But if Krystal succeeds in finding out the truth about Ricky's death, will she lose him for good?

A Match Made in High School by Kristin Walker

When the principal announces that every senior must participate in a mandatory year-long Marriage Education program, Fiona Sheehan believes that her life can’t get any worse. Then she marries her “husband”: jerky jock Todd, whose cheerleader girlfriend, Amanda, has had it in for Fiona since day one of second grade. Even worse? Amanda is paired with Fiona’s long-term crush, Gabe. At least Fiona is doing better than her best friend, Marcie, who is paired up with the very quiet, very mysterious Johnny Mercer.

Pranks, fights, misunderstandings, and reconciliations ensue in an almost Shakespearean comedy of errors about mistaken first impressions, convoluted coupling, and hidden crushes.

My Invented Life by Lauren Bjorkman

With Roz and Eva everything becomes a contest—who can snag the best role in the school play, have the cutest boyfriend, pull off the craziest prank. Still, they’re as close as sisters can be. Until Eva deletes Roz from her life like so much junk e-mail for no reason that Roz understands. Now Eva hangs out with the annoyingly petite cheerleaders, and Roz fantasizes about slipping bovine growth hormone into their Gatorade.

Roz has a suspicion about Eva. In turn, Eva taunts Roz with a dare, which leads to an act of total insanity. Drama geeks clamor for attention, Shakespearean insults fly, and Roz steals the show in Lauren Bjorkman’s hilarious debut novel.

Brightly Woven by Alexandra Bracken

When Wayland North brings rain to a region that's been dry for over ten years, he's promised anything he'd like as a reward. He chooses the village elder's daughter, sixteen-year-old Sydelle Mirabel, who is a skilled weaver and has an unusual knack for repairing his magical cloaks. Though Sydelle has dreamt of escaping her home, she's hurt that her parents relinquish her so freely and finds herself awed and afraid of the slightly ragtag wizard who is unlike any of the men of magic in the tales she's heard. Still, she is drawn to this mysterious man who is fiercely protective of her and so reluctant to share his own past.

The pair rushes toward the capital, intent to stop an imminent war, pursued by Reuel Dorwan (a dark wizard who has taken a keen interest in Sydelle) and plagued by unusually wild weather. But the sudden earthquakes and freak snowstorms may not be a coincidence. As Sydelle discovers North's dark secret and the reason for his interest in her and learns to master her own mysterious power, it becomes increasingly clear that the fate of the kingdom rests in her fingertips. She will either be a savior, weaving together the frayed bonds between Saldorra and Auster, or the disastrous force that destroys both kingdoms forever.

The Red Umbrella by Christina Gonzalez

NOTE: This was an old tour.  The book was located, so now we're making it a new tour.  If you were on the old tour and still wish to receive the book, you must sign up again.

The Red Umbrella is the moving tale of a 14-year-old girl's journey from Cuba to America as part of Operation Pedro Pan—an organized exodus of more than 14,000 unaccompanied children, whose parents sent them away to escape Fidel Castro's revolution.

In 1961, two years after the Communist revolution, Lucía Álvarez still leads a carefree life, dreaming of parties and her first crush. But when the soldiers come to her sleepy Cuban town, everything begins to change. Freedoms are stripped away. Neighbors disappear. Her friends feel like strangers. And her family is being watched.

As the revolution's impact becomes more oppressive, Lucía's parents make the heart-wrenching decision to send her and her little brother to the United States—on their own.

Suddenly plunked down in Nebraska with well-meaning strangers, Lucía struggles to adapt to a new country, a new language, a new way of life. But what of her old life? Will she ever see her home or her parents again? And if she does, will she still be the same girl?

The Red Umbrella is a moving story of country, culture, family, and the true meaning of home.

After her sister Athena's tragic death, it's obvious that grief-stricken Persephone "Phe" Archer no longer belongs in Los Angeles. Hoping to make sense of her sister's sudden demise and the cryptic dreams following it, Phe abandons her bubbly LA life to attend an uptight East Coast preparatory school in Shadow Hills, MA -- a school which her sister mysteriously mentioned in her last diary entry before she died.

Once there, Phe quickly realizes that something is deeply amiss in her new town. Not only does Shadow Hills' history boast an unexplained epidemic that decimated hundreds of its citizens in the 1700s, but its modern townies also seem eerily psychic, with the bizarre ability to bend metal. Even Zach -- the gorgeous stranger Phe meets and immediately begins to lust after -- seems as if he is hiding something serious. Phe is determined to get to the bottom of it. The longer she stays there, the more she suspects that her sister's untimely death and her own destiny are intricately linked to those who reside in Shadow Hills.

Joy is used to Hearing Whispers. She's used to walking down the street and instantly knowing people's deepest, darkest desires. She uses this talent for good—to make people happy and give them what they want. But for her older sister, Jessica, the family gift is a curse, and she uses it to make people's lives—especially Joy's—miserable. Still, when Joy Hears Jessica Whisper I want to kill my Hearing dead, and kill me too if that's what it takes, she knows she has to save her sister, even if it means deserting her friends, stealing a car, and running away with a boy she barely knows—a boy who may have a dark secret of his own.

Open Tours, Closed Tours, and a few more notes

Hey guys! We've started! Hoo-rah!

This post is just a reminder of some things:

We still have quite a few spots left open on almost all the tours! We're gonna get these started, but feel free to still sign up (see full list below).

Also, it is YOUR JOB to e-mail us when you need the next address. If you mail late because you forgot to e-mail, it still counts as a strike against you.

Remember to post in the chat box when you recieve a book and when you send a book (include DC#). You may also request to be removed from a tour (ONLY THE NEW TOURS) in the chatbox. Other than that, please refrain from filling up the chatbox with comments. That's what e-mail is for!

There are many of you who have signed up for multiple tours. And MAY recieve multiple books in one week. Unfortunately, extensions can rarely be granted. We have to keep the tours moving. We do the best we can to make sure that you don't recieve too many books at once, but there's only so much we can do. Read what you can! We know life is busy.

Finally, this post will NOT be updated. Don't look to this as a reference in the future. Look instead to the appropriate post for each tour.

Thanks guys! Here's the information on all the current tours so far:

NOcturne by L.D. Harkrader

A romantic tale of vampires and magic from award-winning author L.D. Harkrader

Flanders Lane is tired of being protected by her Uncle Anatole. After years of studying magic in the back of his bookshop, she's ready for an adventure of her own. Then one day, strange things start happening. A burglar breaks into the butcher's shop, stealing nothing, but leaving the floors sparkling clean. Soon the seamstress's apprentice vanishes on her way home, leaving behind only a shoe still laced at the top. And then worst of all, Uncle Anatole disappears. That night, a young vampire hunter named Pascoe knocks urgently on the bookshop door. Pascoe insists there is a vampire lurking in nearby Blakely Hall. Flanders looks deep into Pascoe's gorgeous eyes and finds herself agreeing to help him. As Flanders tracks the vampire, her feelings for Pascoe grow until she stumbles upon a secret that turns everything she thought she knew about Pascoe--and herself--upside down.

The Absolute Value of -1 by Steve Brezenoff

The absolute value of any number, positive or negative, is its distance from zero: |-1| = 1

Noah, Lily, and Simon have been a trio forever. But as they enter high school, their relationships shift and their world starts to fall apart. Privately, each is dealing with a family crisis—divorce, abuse, and a parent's illness. Yet as they try to escape the pain and reach out for the connections they once counted on, they slip—like soap in a shower. Noah’s got it bad for Lily, but he knows too well Lily sees only Simon. Simon is indifferent, suddenly inscrutable to his friends. All stand alone in their heartache and grief.

In his luminous YA novel, Steve Brezenoff explores the changing value of relationships as the characters realize that the distances between them are far greater than they knew.

Confessions of the Sullivan Sisters by Natalie Standiford

The Sullivan sisters have a big problem. On Christmas Day their rich and imperious grandmother gathers the family and announces that she will soon die . . .and has cut the entire family out of her will. Since she is the source of almost all their income, this means they will soon be penniless.

Someone in the family has offended her deeply. If that person comes forward with a confession of her (or his) crime, submitted in writing to her lawyer by New Year's Day, she will reinstate the family in her will. Or at least consider it.

Due out in September.

Where the Streets Had a Name - Randa Abdel-Fattah

Thirteen year old Hayaat is on a mission. She believes a handful of soil from her grandmother's ancestral home in Jerusalem will save her beloved Sitti Zeynab's life. The only problem is that Hayaat and her family live behind the impenetrable wall that divides the West Bank, and they're on the wrong side of check points, curfews, and the travel permit system. Plus, Hayaat's best friend Samy always manages to attract trouble. But luck is on the pair's side as they undertake the journey to Jerusalem from the Palestinian Territories when Hayaat and Samy have a curfew-free day to travel.

But while their journey may only be a few kilometers long, it could take a lifetime to complete. . . .

Humorous and heartfelt, WHERE THE STREETS HAD A NAME deals with the Israel-Palestinian conflict with sensitivity and grace and will open a window on this timely subject.

The Deadly Sister by Eliot Schrefer

Abby Goodwin is sure her sister Maya isn't a murderer. But her parents don't agree. Her friends don't agree. And the cops definitely don't agree. Maya is a drop-out, a stoner, a girl who's obsessed with her tutor, Jefferson Andrews...until he ends up dead. Maya runs away, and leaves Abby following the trail of clues. Each piece of evidence points to Maya, but it also appears that Jefferson had secrets of his own. And enemies. Like his brother, who Abby becomes involved with...until he falls under suspicion.

Is Abby getting closer to finding the true murderer? Or is someone leading her down a twisted false path?
